ANARC Stewards Training

Virtual Learning Series

ANARC has partnered with Safe-Xtract and I4WDTA to develop the ANARC Stewards Virtual Learning Series.

The ANARC Stewards Virtual Learning Series is a leadership and stewardship program designed to strengthen member clubs by building a shared foundation for safe, ethical, and environmentally responsible on-trail leadership. The series blends virtual self-paced learning with live interactive webinars to build both competence and community across clubs.

The ANARC Stewards Virtual Learning provides a framework of core course experiences that are designed to maximize a participant’s experiential learning that can be taken back to the clubs they represent. The intent is that the Stewards will assume the role of educator and leader in the principles learned during the Stewards Virtual Learning.

The ANARC Stewards Virtual Learning starts January 2027 and is open to all ANARC member clubs in good standing.

What is an ANARC Steward?

  • While anyone can be a Steward; one of the core guiding principles is that it is someone who can be viewed as the future of your individual club. This implies that the participant is an active, consistent attender and contributor to the club’s activities. The participant ideally is willing to take on roles of leadership and educator; this means they display an interest and aptitude for those roles as well as a firm belief in safe, responsible use of vehicles and the environment.

  • ANARC Stewards is a comprehensive, peer-leader development program, equipping club representatives with practical on-trail, leadership, medical, and communication skills. Stewards return to their member club empowered to promote safe and responsible Land Rover events while fostering fellowship and stewardship.

What is the Virtual Learning Series?

  • A repeatable, high-impact virtual training series that develops Stewards through ANARC’s 5 Steward Principles (“Know Before You Go”), trail leadership and communication skills, adult-learning and train-the-trainer methods, and structured on-trail recovery decision-making.

  • Clubs can grow leaders and standardize best practices without losing their unique culture.

What are the ANARC 5 Steward Principles?

  • The 5 Principles create a simple, repeatable “Know Before You Go” decision framework.

  • Clubs keep their identity; the Principles provide shared language for safer decisions.

  • Preparedness and ethical choices reduce preventable incidents and trail impacts.

Leadership & Communication

  • Good trail leadership is clarity and calm under pressure—more than driving skill.

  • Briefings, radio discipline, and role clarity reduce risk and confusion.

  • Stewards lead by example and create inclusive, respectful group culture.

Adult Learning & Instruction (Train-the-Trainer)

  • Stewards multiply capability when they can teach and mentor—not just perform.

  • Adults learn best when content is relevant and problem-centered; the program is practical.

  • Teach-back builds confidence and sustains knowledge within clubs year-over-year.

Recovery Fundamentals

  • Recovery safety starts with planning, communication, and disciplined decision-making.

  • Fundamentals emphasize safe setups and consistent terminology for team coordination.

  • The program is designed to reduce risky improvisation through structured thinking.

Advanced Recovery & Safety

  • Advanced training emphasizes scenario planning, load awareness, and risk management.

  • The reinforces leadership under pressure: roles, safety checks, and stop criteria.

  • This “responsible call” includes knowing when not to proceed.
